AYLA SALMAN GORUNEY

(1943, Balıkesir) 

 

Between 1961 and 1966, Ayla Goruney studied at the State Academy of Fine Arts. She continued her education at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy in Amsterdan betvveen 1968 and 1970. She has held 25 solo exhibitions, and has received 4 awards. Among her awards are the Award for Carpet Design Competition on the occasion of the 50th Anniversary Celebrations of Holland-Germany Carpet Factohes, and First Prize at the Wall Carpet Competition of the istanbul Sheraton Hotel.

 

She is currently a faculty member of the Faculty of Fine Arts at Marmara University. "My first childhood memories are from the surroundings of Manyas Lake known for its naturally fertile land. My parents were teachers of the idealist 1st Republic generation. l attempt to reflect on my weaves the concept of beauty that l physically perceive from nature since my childhood, the concept of beauty that l acquired from various branches of art during my academy years and during my visits to different museums, galleries and cities, and the experience that l gained from the unique cultural wealth of our geography."
