UNAL CIMIT

(1934, Karadeniz Eregli - 1993) 

 

Unal Cimit studied in the Department of Painting at the İstanbul State Academy of Fine Arts, Halil Dikmen and Bedri Rahmi studios, in Germany, after Offenbach Main Practical Art School, he attended the Höhr-Grezhausen Schtatliche Keramische Schule, where he studied ceramic techniques. Returning to Turkey, he worked as director of the Eczacıbaşı ornament and kitchenware factory; and in 1976, he taught in the plaster forming studio at the Academy of Fine Arts. in 1982, he began work in the Atatürk Faculty of Education at Marmara University. In 1984, he resigned and became a freelance artist. Among his awards are the Achievement Award at the Worgendorf-Haiger Young Artists' Exhibition in 1985 and the Achievement Award for Ceramics at the 43th State Painting and Sculpture Exhibition in 1982.


He has taken part in various art activities from environmental arrangements of ceramic objects with sand and pebble to independent forms of ceramics and sculpture. Considering 'ceramics' sometimes as dependent on, and sometimes independent from, sculpture, he emphasizes interdisciplinary communication among different forms of art.
