His childhood was mainly in south-eastern cities because of his father's attribute. He finished secondary and high schools in Istanbul. He started secondary school of Academy by the help ot Nazmi Ziya. He worked in Nazmi Ziya, Ibrahim Calli and Hikmet Onat studios. He took lessons from Leopold Levy for a period. He graduated from Academy at first rank with Ragip Gokcan. After military attribution, he was designated to Giresun. He entered Academy again for high school education that was founded very new in 1940. He finished High School after four years as the first graduate.
He held his first exhibition in Beyoglu Matbubat Management Building in 1941 under the title "Harbour Painting Exhibition" with his friends sharing the socialist-realist art approach; (Kemal Sonmezler, Turgut Atalay, Selim Turan, Avni Arbas, Mumtaz Yener). This was the first exhibition of the "New Ones Group" that he founded with his friends. This activity lasted until 1951 by participating of new members as; Abidin Dino, Faruk Morel, Agop Arad, Yusuf Karacay). Nuri iyem worked for a period as an assistant to Halil Dikmen in Art and Sculpture Museum. He left his approach of abstract that he started in 1950's. In 1960's he worked on subjects mainly; the immigrants from village to city, depictions from slums and local clothes, young lady portraits with jewels and ornaments.
