PEACE THROUGH ART AN INTERNATIONAL FETIVAL OF PAINTINGS IN CESME - IZMIR, TURKEY
May 1 to 7, 2004
PEACE Through ART is an international event showcasing the art of painting. It is scheduled for May 2004 and will take place in Cesme, Turkey, which lies west of Izmir on the ancient and beautiful Cesme Peninsula, lapped by the waters of the Aegean Sea. Art is a common language capable of creating a bond between people from all nations. Participating artists and art-lovers will come from around the world. It is our desire that PEACE Through ART will stimulate a common language among these participants.
This event has the support of the Turkish Culture and Tourism Minister, the municipalities of Cesme and Izmir, the local Business Associations, Press and TV. With their assistance the Izmir Watercolorist Association will provide substantial advertising throughout Turkey. Each participant is expected to provide local promotion through the various organizations and media in their own country.
Artists participating in this event will display two pieces of their work, the subject of which should reflect the culture of the participant's country. Artists will have the opportunity to demonstrate their techniques and visitors will be able to practice the various techniques of the participating artists.
During this week-long event, exhibiting artists and their families will have an opportunity to experience the local culture and tour many of the ancient temples and amphitheatres in the vicinity. Turkey is one of the oldest historic sites in the world, boasting remnants from Roman, Greek, Mesopotamian, Urartian, Lydian, Phrygian, Acathian, Hittite and other ancient civilizations. Turkish people take great pride in their country and the diversity of their heritage.

Compelling Reasons for Artists to Participate in This Event
You will have exposure to a new audience with the potential for sales and an opportunity to experience a new culture and enjoy a holiday with a business focus.
The Izmir Watercolour Association, assisted by the municipality of Cesme, hosts this (not-for-profit) international event to create a multicultural art environment with built-in opportunities for: interaction between the artists and audience members; an exchange of ideas; the enjoyment of Turkish culture and history. Through this artistic event painters from around the world will bring to Turkey views of their country and some insight into their culture. As people from countries and cultures all over the globe come together through various artistic interpretations, the audience will experience the strength of art as a bridge between different cultures. This will create an atmosphere of respect, understanding, sharing, and harmony, the basis for ?Peace on Earth?. Friendships will be forged during this event and we hope that in future another PEACE Through ART International Festival of Paintings will take place in the home country of one of the other participating artists.
